368 / AW-TT01 — CRITICAL HAZARDS & CREW ACCOUNTABILITY
WHY THIS RAIL-SIDE SAFETY TALK MATTERS
A contractor entering a rail siding must know if track occupation was released, shunting is prohibited and trains are segregated from the workface. AW-TT01 is the one-page critical-hazard toolbox talk for mine rail loadout, bulk dispatch, stackers and reclaimers. It links the crew's exposure to the actual railway authority and equipment controls before work starts.
SIX SOURCE-DEFINED CREW CONTROLS
1) Rail-infrastructure authority releases track occupation and movement prohibition. 2) Segregate shunting, stockyard traffic and conveyor routes from the crew. 3) Positively isolate wagon-loading chute, stacker/reclaimer and tripper motions. 4) Identify overhead traction, crossings and traction-return electrical hazards. 5) Control unstable stockpiles, engulfment and suspended reclaimer access. 6) Evidence track gauge, switches, signalling and weighbridge calibrations. The first control is formal occupation authority, not a verbal assurance.
WHO PRESENTS IT, WHERE AND WHEN
Brief exposed workers at the siding, crossing, loadout, stockpile or reclaim interface before first entry or a changed shift or rail possession. The presenter confirms the authorised rail controller, movement boundary, required isolations and possible train or reclaimer approach. A machine that appears stopped can still expose crew members to uncontrolled movement or electrical traction.
COMPLETE AND RETAIN THE EDITABLE WORD FORM
Fill MINE / AREA / DATE / SHIFT and PERMIT / PRESENTER. Discuss all six printed controls against current rail and mine procedures, and log open actions in the relevant workpack. The original A4 DOCX has 16 NAME / EMPLOYEE OR ACCESS NO. and SIGNATURE attendance rows. Have each briefed worker sign and retain the record alongside track possession, isolation and shift-safety evidence.
STOP, WITHDRAW AND MINE CONTROL
The source STOP / WITHDRAW / NOTIFY MINE CONTROL rule applies to uncontrolled train movement, unstable stockpiles, live traction or missing rail possession. Withdraw; don't assume a train or reclaimer is isolated. Only a mine-authorised official may release the affected area or system. This talk grants no rail possession or operating permission.
THE SINGLE, PACKAGE OR COMPLETE MINING FILE
This original editable Word form costs R12.95 and is included in the 386-document Surface Mining Checklist Package and the complete Surface Mining Contractor H&S File. Both include the 386 originals; the full file adds the contractor management system and trade annexures. Try a Single first; avoid duplicating purchases.
