358 / AW-C01 — RAIL PRE-START & MINE INTERFACE CHECKLIST
AW-C01 is the original editable one-page pre-start Word checklist for a contractor working around surface-mine sidings, rail loadout, stockyards, stackers and reclaimers. It verifies seven mine/rail interfaces with Y, N or N/A plus an evidence, defect and action entry before crews begin.
WHY A RAIL-SIDE PRE-START CHECK IS CRITICAL
Work may begin near moving rolling stock, energised traction, conveyors and stockpiles even when the repair itself seems straightforward. The first gate is the rail infrastructure owner's release of track occupation and prohibition of train movements. The remainder deals with yard segregation, isolation, electrical exposure, ground stability and witnessed technical verification.
THE ORIGINAL SEVEN NUMBERED CHECKS
1. Rail infrastructure authority release for track occupation and movement prohibition. 2. Segregation of stockyard traffic, shunting and conveyor routes from the contractor crew. 3. Positive isolation of wagon-loading chute, stacker/reclaimer and tripper motions. 4. Identification of overhead traction, crossings and traction-return electrical hazards.
5. Controls for stockpile stability, engulfment and suspended reclaimers. 6. Evidence for track gauge, switches, signalling and weighbridge calibration. 7. Witnessed interlocking and train-movement tests after a modification. These seven rows are taken from the actual AW-C01 document rather than a generic mining pre-start.
USING THE REAL CHECKLIST AND HOLD CONTROL
Fill in MINE / PIT / WORK AREA, WORK ORDER / MINE ZONE, DATE / SHIFT / PERMIT and CONTRACTOR SUPERVISOR. Each printed item has Y, N, N/A and EVIDENCE / DEFECT / ACTION fields. Explain all NO and N/A results against the mine's current work order and code of practice; attach actual possession, isolation, testing and calibration records.
The printed HOLD instruction says stop for missing clearance, isolation, protection or critical evidence, and reassess changed conditions. Sign-off separates CONTRACTOR SUPERVISOR and MINE RELEASE AUTHORITY with DATE / RELEASE REF. AW-C01 does not grant a rail permit; the appointed mine authority must authorise work and restart.
