259 / AV-TB-01 — Stores & Chemical Segregation Toolbox Talk

WHEN AND WHY TO USE THIS TALK

Use this pre-shift briefing before stores, warehouse, material-receipt, chemical movement or waste-control tasks in a working refinery, petrochemical unit or tank-farm support area. A seemingly routine delivery can introduce incompatible chemicals, leak into shared drainage or obstruct a critical emergency route. The form prompts the facilitator to demonstrate site-specific segregation and process-area limits before staff accept, store or move supplies.

THE FIVE PRINTED TALKING POINTS

The source form instructs the team to review chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets before accepting deliveries; segregate oxidisers, flammables and other incompatible materials; keep emergency exits, hydrants and pipe/control panels unobstructed; record damaged containers and escalate through the site spill response when needed; and reconcile material custody, waste manifests and handover at contract closeout. Tie the examples to the actual goods, store location and fire/spill response arrangements rather than delivering a generic chemical lecture.

RECORD, CHECK AND ESCALATE

Capture the facility, unit/equipment, work order, operator PTW reference, contractor and shift. Discuss the stated exposure—stores work introducing incompatible materials or inadvertently affecting plant controls—and note questions or outstanding action. The form requires operator screening of stores access and material compatibility and forbids control-system connections without an authorised OT change. Where a spill, incompatible storage, restricted access or uncertain permission is found, stop the affected work and notify the operator permit issuer/area authority; only documented reassessment and release allows restart.

SIGNATURES AND USE

The facilitator checks comprehension by asking which hazard may change, who owns isolations and what establishes safe restart. Record facilitator signature/date/shift and up to 16 attendees with employee IDs and signatures. Keep this editable A4 Word (DOCX) briefing with the approved workpack. It records an actual toolbox discussion; it is not a chemical acceptance certificate, operator permit or plant release.

BUY ONLY WHAT YOU NEED

This individual editable Word (DOCX) form is R12.95. The 260-document Petrochemical Checklist Package is R1,559.95 (about R6 per form). The complete 500-page Petrochemical Contractor Safety File currently costs R1,899.95, only R340 above the package; it includes these same records plus the A–AA management system, compulsory AB and all AC–AV trade annexures. Actual site approvals still govern; current sale prices may change.
